This year’s spring break gave students a much needed vacation from school. It is one of the most popular breaks for travel and vacations. With one week off, some students chose to go out of state or out of the country to venture off to somewhere warm with sunshine and an ocean, while others chose an adventure in another state, and some stayed at home with their families.

For most students, spring break means traveling to a warm destination. Senior Emma Greene went on a trip to Cancun, Mexico with a large group of seniors. She said, “Spring break was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Being able to be with all of my friends in Mexico was something I will never forget.” The group trip is definitely an experience for all to spend time with their friends and family for their last trip during their high school years. This is bittersweet for seniors as it is likely  their last time being all together on a spring break trip.

Another student chose to enjoy the warm sunshine in Florida. Senior Kim Hamade went to Florida with her family and boyfriend. Hamade said, “During my spring break, I went to Florida and stayed in Orlando, but I also went to Siesta Key and Clearwater. It was a good time to relax and have fun.” Hamade’s spring break was eventful, making many stops at different areas in the state whilst relaxing on the beach and soaking in the sun. Vacationing in the south while enjoying the sun and warm weather is something a lot of people enjoy as it has been so cold and gloomy this  winter; it is nice to escape our normal routine and weather and enjoy the sunshine before heading back for the rainy April season.

While spring break is popular for going far south in the U.S. or out of the country, other students went out of the state in a less tropical environment. Senior Bayleigh Mathews went on a different trip. “I went to Tennessee and Kentucky with my mom. We went hiking, shopping, and touring around the states. I do not enjoy the beach as much as others, and I would rather go somewhere with a lot of outdoor scenery. It was nice to be able to get out of Michigan and relax.” Mathews shows how spring break does not always have to be spent somewhere on the beach; you can have just as a relaxing vacation elsewhere. A vacation out of state enjoying the scenery of mountains and greenery everywhere is very relaxing after a long grey winter back at home.

There were though quite a few students who decided to stay home on break and enjoy their time off from school just relaxing and hanging out. Junior Mavreck Nicoloff said, “I didn’t travel for spring break this year. I stayed at home, slept in, worked, and hung out with my friends. It was nice to have a break from school.” Nicoloff shows that you do not need to go on a vacation to enjoy your break; some enjoy relaxing at home and enjoying a break from their normal school routine.

Spring break gives students time to relax and re-charge before they have to jump into the last stretch of the school year before summer break. With finals, testing, and preparations to wrap up their final grades before the year ends, the break gave them a chance to feel more prepared and get more motivation for the next two months with no break. Despite the fact that the week off went by quickly, this spring break left students feeling relaxed, more motivated, and with life-long memories on which to reminisce.
