Seasonal songs send satisfaction

There is nothing better on a winter day than curling up in a blanket, popping in some headphones, and listening to your favorite music on repeat. Most of us are probably feeling a little overwhelmed right now, which makes this a perfect time to discover some new tunes. To cure some stress and ease your tension, here are some of students’ ideal songs to put them in a better mood and fall spirit.

“Stuck on you” by Giveon– This mellow tune sets you in the right mood to relax and vibe to the soothing voice of Giveon. With such a heartwarming message, the lyrics are calming when it comes to dealing with the chaos going on in our world right now.

“Foolish” by Ashanti– Senior Julien Neer labels this as his favorite song after his dad showed it to him as a kid. He said, “…[this] is some of the first R&B I’ve ever listened to, and it is just so soothing, especially in these cold months.” Neer added, “Although it is probably too chilly to roll your windows down, this Ashanti classic is perfect for jamming out on a long drive.”

“Clay Pigeons” by Michael Cera– This alternative song is fitting for fall because of its peaceful story and simplicity. Michael Cera uses his gentle voice to his advantage when it comes to creating a song that can uplift us this season.

“Ivy” by Frank Ocean– The charming vocals of Frank Ocean’s song “Ivy” are driven to display an array of emotions of pain and anger through heartbreak. The minimalistic guitar-driven song embodies indie rock, avant-R&B, and guitar pop, which is soothing on a brisk day. Music fanatic and senior Ryan Hamama said, “I could listen all day. This song comforts me, especially when driving around with the volume all the way up.”

“Sycamore Girl” by Rex Orange County– With an angelic beat and sympathetic message for his listeners, this song is paired perfectly with fall weather. The singer-songwriter is known for his unique voice and a mix of jazz, R&B, and electronic background. “Sycamore Girl” is just as amazing all year round, but it is an ideal fall/winter must-add to a playlist.

“My Boo” by Usher and Alicia Keys– The 2004 hit touches on a love story between two people over the years. It creates a sense of warmness, but also an emotional aspect of the storyline. The voices of Alicia Keys and Usher present a soothing melody that is irresistible on a chilly day. Put some comfy clothes on and jam out to this song while making a nice cup of hot cocoa.

“The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac- Fleetwood Mac has created a 2002 and a 2004 remaster of this catchy song that will have you singing it all day long. Senior Delaney Chapuseaux said, “I love playing it with the volume all the way up while I’m driving in the cold weather.” “The Chain” is a perfect alternative/rock song for any season, but makes for a better listen as the weather begins to change.

These are just a few of the many favored songs for fall and wintertime that allow us to take a break from reality in order to relax to some R&B and alternative musicians. Songs such as the ones listed above are perfect for cozying up with headphones, and enjoying the beautiful sounds of these fall-favorite jams.
