December is a big month for Netflix releases. There are tons of new movies just in time for the holidays, new Netflix originals, and even some throwbacks. As the weather gets colder and Christmas gets closer, grab a blanket and some hot cocoa and watch some of these shows and movies coming to Netflix this December.
You – Season 2
Dec. 26
The first season of this psychological thriller was a big hit. It first aired on Lifetime but then turned into a Netflix original series last December. The story follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), an antisocial bookstore manager who falls for an aspiring writer named Beck (Elizabeth Lail). His seemingly innocent crush turns dark when he begins obsessively stalking her, and he murders anyone who tries to come in between them. In this upcoming season, Joe has a new love interest, and he travels to California to pursue her. Fans of season one are looking forward to this new season.
The Confession Killer – Season 1
Dec. 6
This Netflix original is great for anyone who is interested in true crime. It examines the case of Henry Lee Lucas, an American serial killer, known for allegedly killing hundreds of people. He claimed to have killed over 600 women, but it all turned out to be a lie. Netflix will be releasing this five part mini-series about this true story and how Lucas was able to become a media sensation by manipulating and tricking the police.
The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Dec. 1
This movie is a major throwback for Disney fans. A young boy named Max escapes into a fantasy world called Planet Drool. In this world, there are two superheroes, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, but they are in need of a hero, Max. As Max tries to save them, he has to battle aliens and his own bullies like the Ice Princess.
Marriage Story
Dec. 6
This drama and comedy stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. It is about a married couple going through a brutal divorce while trying to keep the family together, as they have a young son named Henry. It was written and directed by Academy Award Winner Noah Baumbach. Many people have enjoyed it as it has a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sweetheart
Dec. 25
This movie is perfect for anyone who is a fan of survival/horror movies. It follows the journey of Jennifer Remming (Kiersey Clemons) who washes ashore on a deserted island after her boat sinks during a storm. While trying to survive, Jennifer discovers that a monster comes out on the island each night. This movie received a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and Hailey Foutch, a movie reviewer wrote, “Ultimately, Sweetheart is an excellent, lean and mean creature feature that proves [J.D.] Dillard’s resourcefulness as a filmmaker and eye for making monster magic.”
