After winning the LVC last season with a record of 16-8, South Lyon United Varsity Hockey team will have to put up a good fight to stay on course with their competitive status. The boys are looking forward to a different, yet exciting season after losing eight seniors last year. There are 10 new players on the team this season which will put a new twist on the dynamics of the team from the previous season.

One of the new players this year is sophomore Ryan Savanyu. Playing up front as forward, Savanyu says he is looking forward to his first season with the team and “can’t wait to get even closer with the boys.”

The United Team, which has players from both South Lyon and South Lyon East High School, has 26 games this time around; they start at the end of November and end their season in late February. This year the captains are seniors Anthony Joseph and Andrew Lowen. They will lead the team away for 17 games and nine at home at the Kensington Valley Ice House in Brighton. When creating goals for the team this year Lowen said, “I’ll lead the team by example, and just show the new players how it’s done. We are all really close this year, so it makes playing the game that much more fun.”

The home-opener is Meet the Team Night on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Walled Lake Western. Senior Joey Kinjorski said, “I am super excited to get the student section rowdy before the game and to wear our new alternate jerseys.” It should be a great game to get an insight on the rest of the season, and attendees will have the opportunity to receive a free SLU T-shirt and get the whole team to sign it after the game.

Get ready to come support the boys in this sure to be entertaining season as they take on the LVC.
