During an interview in 2007, Oprah Winfrey told Larry King that she owes a lot of her success to the Law of Attraction—a concept that receives a lot of discussion. She is not the only one; many people have manifested their dream lives through the help of the Law of Attraction. So exactly what is it?

It is not magic; it is instead a universal principle. Think of it like gravity. You toss a ball into the air and it falls back to the ground. Gravity is an unchanging law of the universe, so you do not have to believe in it for it to happen. Regardless, you experience the effects. However, by believing in gravity, you can predict what will happen. The Law of Attraction is similar; being aware of it can change your life.

It is a well known scientific fact that everything is made up of energy, even intangible things such as thoughts and feelings, and everything has its own frequency. As soon as a thought is made, frequency radiates into the universe and interacts with the material world. The thought attracts energy of like thoughts, like people, and like objects, and they are drawn back to you. Like attracts like. So if you have a very positive attitude towards things, you will receive positivity back. But if you have a negative outlook, you get negativity back.

There is a lot of scientific evidence that proves our thoughts have immediate effects on ourselves and our surroundings. In the 1990s Dr. Masaru Emoto wanted to prove the power of thought. He performed a series of experiments to see how the effects of words, prayer, and environment affected the crystalline structure of water. The water that was given positive words and prayer were far more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing. This tangible evidence is extremely astounding. If positivity can have that much of an impact on water, imagine the effects it has on people and events.

Through the Law of Attraction, there is so much you can manifest—money, love, relationships, health, travel, and more. But it is not as easy as it may seem. Just because you begin to think positively does not necessarily mean all your dreams are going to come true. So how do you apply the Law of Attraction to your own life? Your thoughts, actions, and desires must be in alignment.

In order to align your thoughts with your desires, first decide what you want to manifest. Ask yourself where is your life now and where you want it to be. You can aquire pretty much anything, but you must be specific. Do you want more money? How much? Write everything down somewhere, but write it as if you already have it. For example, if you want to be successful, do not write “I want to be successful” because this sends the universe signals that you do not have it. Instead write, “I am successful”. This tells the universe that you do already have it, and similar experiences will be drawn back to you.

It is crucial that you deeply imagine what you want to manifest. If you want to manifest your dream house, picture every detail in your head. What does your dream house look like? How big is it? What does it smell like? What do you see when you first walk in? How does it make you feel when you are there? The creative power of the mind is immense. If you can see it in your head, you can hold it in your hand.

The Law of Attraction is not a substitute for hard work. So you still need to work toward your goals. In doing so will result in you aligning your actions with your desires. This is all about your intentions. If you want to get good grades, you cannot just sit around imagining it, you have to study. If you want to lose weight, you have to eat right. The actions must be consistent, too. The most successful people have a strong purpose and have aligned their actions with this purpose, and they are constantly checking to make sure they are on the right track. This is where being specific with your goals is crucial. Knowing where you want to be will give you a sense of direction.

Ultimately, the Law of Attraction could change your life for the better, but you must give it time. It is not going to happen overnight, so do not get caught up in how or when. Just trust the process and before you know it, you will turn your dreams into reality.
