On March 4, Starbucks removed some of the  “less popular” items from their menu. Some of these items include the Iced Matcha Lemonade, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, and the beloved Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino. Because of this drastic change to the menu, many people are upset with the Starbucks franchise.

To Starbucks customers, the saddest loss is the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino. The discontinuation of these products may not seem like a big deal, and the world would just keep on spinning. However, to the Starbucks lovers, and people who may get it every day, taking away some of their favorite items makes the chain have less variety in their menu to them, and some may even perceive it as a shift away from fan favorites. Because Starbucks decided to do this, some of their customers may decide not even to go anymore, resulting in a potential decrease in customer satisfaction with the Starbucks experience.

This coffee shop ultimately decided to get rid of most of their items to allow for a simple menu, and they seem to be aiming to focus more on fewer, more popular items, to improve consistency and quality, and reduce wait times. TheStreet stated, “Around late last year, Bryan Niccol [the CEO of Starbucks] announced his plan to reduce the Starbucks menu by 30 percent to focus more on its coffee as part of the company’s turnaround plan,” By making this decision, it could help to improve the Starbucks franchise. To many Starbucks workers and many others, the line to purchase an item is almost overwhelmingly long. Some spend countless minutes in a hurry to grab their items and go, but there is no changing that wait time. To skip the wait, some like to place an online order, but even by doing so, it does not shorten the time by much. By eliminating items from the menu that some customers may love, it could seem like they are attempting to shorten the wait time and the number of people in line. If they are attempting to do so, it is smart, however, the result of this could cause them to make less money than they thought because some fan favorites are being taken away.

Because Starbucks has taken away many of their beloved drinks from customers, it may have brought the number of customers down in an attempt to shorten their line sizes, and focus on the more popular drinks. By doing so, it can take away the Starbucks experience and shared love for the items that have been discontinued, and overall make the fans of some of these drinks very upset.
