Societies have experienced corruption through leaders or people of power lying or withholding information from the people they serve since the dawn of mankind. As time has gone forward this issue has not been resolved with more and more politicians being known for making false promises and just flat out saying things that are not true. Take President Donald Trump for example, he promised during his campaign many ‘day one’ policies that were not delivered upon his inauguration. Many people voted for Trump because of these promises regarding the economy and inflation he presented and he has done nothing but work to adhere to other agendas thus far into his election.
Trump also seemingly tried to sway public opinion using the controversy with the TikTok ban. The company made it seem like he was saving the platform, thanking Trump and calling him “President Trump” when he was not even inaugurated yet. Trump was trying to make himself look good while not fulfilling his original promises like settling the Russo-Ukrainian war, combating antisemitism, and reducing prices overall. These along with others of which he himself can barely control like reducing violent crimes or turning the country around. The point is that Trump made all of these promises to the people of America and he promised they would come day one, and yet some of them we haven’t even seen him speak about since he made them or they will be dismissed as impossible to do so in such a short amount of time.
Another popular example of this happening was the Nixon Watergate scandal. A more blatant example, but nonetheless full of lies and immoral actions. Nixon and Nixon’s party planted listening devices in the Watergate office building in Washington D.C. to listen in to the democratic party’s National Committee. When he was caught doing this through a recording in the Oval Office with an associate where they discussed how to stop the Watergate investigation. he was quick to resign before he was impeached, so that in the future he could run for president again, but he never did.
The point is that these government officials are able to manipulate the common people’s views on what is actually going on with their plans and how they can change things for the worse. This has been happening for ages and will continue to happen. The solution to this issue is to come together as a community of citizens and see the issues that these people in power are causing rather than aligning with one side and letting them get away with these terrible things. People can do this by peaceful protesting or calling your government officials to put an end to these wannabe tyrants for good.
