The shocking news that turned every Taylor Swift fan into a Kansas City Chiefs fan: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s new relationship. Rumor has it that Travis Kelce is “The Lucky One” and that they are writing a brand new “Love Story.” However, how long will this publicity continue before people start to get annoyed? Is it getting more attention than it deserves? Will the amount of saturation the couple is receiving backfire on them?
Two prominent public figures being romantically involved seems to be taking precedence over other world-changing events. Some are basking in this exciting new drama, but others do not care for it. Sophomore Taylor Wilcox said, “I love Taylor Swift, but I feel like they have been showing her way too much recently. I like both of them, but it’s just been getting annoying.” The attention can be too much, especially when pre-existing football fans just want to watch a game. Whenever Chiefs games are being broadcasted, Swift is displayed on the screen multiple times per game, and Chiefs fans are already tiring of it. Sophomore Sawyer Rapp said, “I like Taylor Swift, but this is not okay. I just want to watch football.” Football fans are tired of not being able to watch the game that they turned on the TV for.
On the other hand, Swift and Kelce are fulfilling some fans’ “Wildest Dreams.” Senior Abby Tupa said, “I think they’re super cute together, and I am happy that she found a tall man for her tall self.” The new relationship and the attention it is getting is all Swifties have wanted and more. The fan base loves to see Swift on the face of every social media platform, and occupying the camera during football games. Fans are ecstatic over this pairing, and they love to see her doing well in this new relationship.
Swift recently went through a tough breakup after a six-year relationship. Everybody thought her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, was the one. After the heavily publicized breakup, nobody expected her to be able to bounce back like she has. For fans to see her so cheery again is driving them to want more. Not only are fans noticing her joy, but the way Kelce is treating her is all over the internet; him opening her car door and guiding her through a crowd of paparazzi has Swifties bouncing off the walls. Swifties want to know every detail on how much happier Swift is with Kelce; however, it is starting to bother those who are not part of the raging fanbase. Whenever Kelce is shown on screen, you can almost guarantee a panned shot over to Swift with Kelce’s family just seconds later. For those Chiefs fans—or even the opposing team’s fans at home—that shot can make or break an attitude towards the game. Some are waiting for those celebratory shots throughout the game; others are rolling their eyes.
Swift and Kelce are the current face of the internet, but should the public say “Bye Bye Baby,” or should people learn to “tolerate it?”
