Fall and winter are the most cherished times of the year—they both bring comfort and tradition and have good qualities, but which one is truly better?

Fall is one of the best seasons. There are so many good things about it. The weather gets colder and you can switch out your shorts and tank tops for hoodies and leggings. Fall clothes are superior to any other type of outfits: Jeans, flannels, hoodies, leggings, and sweats are some of the most comfortable items of clothing. The colors are beautiful—oranges, yellows, and reds never disappoint.

New scary movies come out, and you can rewatch your favorite ones. The Nightmare Before Christmas—which is 100 percent a Halloween movie—or Scream. The holidays during fall are also the best with Halloween being scary, dark, and spooky, and Thanksgiving providing a time to spend with family and eat delicious food.

TV shows are a main factor in getting into the fall spirit. Shows like the CW’s Gilmore Girls on Netflix is a must-watch. The intro to Gilmore Girls is filled with fall colors and even has an orange hue to it. When you watch Gilmore Girls you are sucked into their world of coffee, sweaters, Starshallow, and Luke’s pumpkin pancakes. Another show with a spookier fall vibe is The Vampire Diaries. It is a little creepy and twisted but also filled with romance and warmth. Vampire Diaries has a major Halloween vibe because of the witches, werewolves, and blood.

Other aspects of fall that make it a strong contender for the best season are those early Starbucks coffee runs that are essential to a slightly chilly morning in October. The perfect fall order is an iced pumpkin chai latte. Getting Starbucks, relaxing by the fire, and listening to some fall hits. Noah Kahan is an artist who immediately gives off the vibe of fall. Some of his notable fall songs include “Stick Season,” “Orange Juice,” “Northern Attitude”, and “The View Between Villages.” Those songs will immediately transport you into an autumn wonderland.

With all those wonderful things being said, there are some downsides to fall. For one, fall is a tough transition. It starts right after summer and for many, it is saddening to know that school is about to begin. It feels like you can not fully enjoy fall because of school. Fall is only celebrated for a month, then gets cut short by Christmas. Nov. 1 is Christmas time. The Halloween decor should be gone and Santa’s workshop is up and ready.

Winter is an important season, with Christmas featured as the favorite holiday for many and December being a time filled with cheer. Christmas time is a very serious time of the month because of all the joy that it brings. The snow, candy canes, decorating the Christmas tree, and of course, receiving gifts never get old during the holiday season.

Christmas movies are a delicacy. Watching a Christmas movie every single day during the months leading up to Christmas should be a part of everyone’s routine to get in the holly jolly spirit. Some of the best movies to check out or probably rewatch are The Santa Clause, Home Alone, The Christmas Story, and Holidate.

Another factor of winter is snow, Snow is magical. Watching snow fall and piling onto the ground. Snow days are some of the best memories—waiting to hear your school being called on the news, playing outside all day, and having hot cocoa.

Despite these positive notes, winter has many cons. January and February are the worst months of the year. New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day are the worst holidays. They are sad because all the holiday cheer is gone, it is freezing, and most people end up alone. You take down the tree and just count down the days until you can put it back up again.

Equally, driving in the snow is terrifying. Coming close to an accident on many occasions is not unlikely. It is very difficult to see ice, so you never know where it is. You should try to avoid driving as much as you can in the winter, but it is hard to do. Cars have been trapped in snow many times. It is not fun being forced to stay inside and at home during a snowstorm.

Weighing in both factors of fall and winter makes it very hard to pick between them. Fall is such an exciting time of year, and winter is the most wonderful time of the year. Thinking about everything each season provides, winter is the clear winner as the better season. Winter is the superior choice because nothing is better than the Christmas spirit. This time of the month is filled with happiness and peace. Christmas time is a break from all the craziness in life. It gives you something to focus on and put your energy into. Although fall is a close second, winter is the superior season. the celebration of people, life, and spreading joy all around. You just cannot beat the magical feeling of Christmas.
